Ray
Miller Carver
Ray Miller, of Paulsboro
NJ, began carving at the urging of noted South Jersey carver Sean Sutton.
Ray Miller carves traditional as well as contemporary shorebirds and he
is known for his carvings of black skimmers, laughing gulls, great white
egrets and blue herons. His shorebird carvings are reminiscent of early
New Jersey carvers from the Barnegat Bay, Delaware River and Bay regions.
Ray Miller is also a painter of coastal and lighthouse scenes. Both his
painting and carving are inspired by years spent around the water. Ray
Miller is a regular demonstrator at the Tuckerton Seaport where he also
teaches a carving class in shorebird miniatures. Ray Miller’s carvings
and paintings have been exhibited at the Tuckerton Seaport and he was a
Tuckerton Seaport featured carver in 2004.
His first carving
was a yellowlegs decoy and he has been carving shorebirds ever since.
His shorebird decoy
carvings reflect a style reminiscent of the early carvers from the Barnegat
Bay as well as the Delaware River and Bay regions.
